New developments in other parent/paternity leave
Fathers and wives of women who have given birth are now entitled to leave from the other parent. Here's a look at the conditions to be met to qualify for this leave.
Until recently, working fathers were often only entitled to one or two days' leave when their child was born. From January 1, 2021, employees and the self-employed will be entitled to several days' paternity leave. In 2024, this leave was extended to the wives of women who have given birth. In the event of the death of one of the parents, the other parent's leave or the deceased parent's maternity leave passes to the surviving parent.
