Abandonment of employment under Swiss law
An employee does not return to work after a period of holiday or illness or returns the company keys following an altercation with his boss. These are all behaviours that might suggest that the employee no longer intends to continue working. But beware: there are strict conditions for abandoning a job.
Before considering that an employee has abandoned his job, the employer must have given the employee one or more formal notices to justify his absence or to return to work. In the event of abandonment of employment, the employer is entitled to compensation. The employee at fault may also be penalised by unemployment insurance.
